Women's Avalanche Awareness with Field Session
This course is for winter backcountry travelers, climbers and skiers/splitboarders who are looking to take the first step towards learning about avalanches, what causes them, and how they can be avoided. You’ll start with some handouts and a short lecture at The Buckhorn Ski And Snowboard lodge, followed by an outdoor clinic on skis, splitboards or snowshoes into the surrounding San Gabriel mountains or Kratka Ridge area.
This program is offered in partnership with Outdoor Women's Alliance.

Intro to snow travel
Ice axe and crampons are fundamental tools for traveling in snow covered mountains. The proper use is key to anyone who wants to travel comfortably and safely in the many snow-covered peaks of our local mountains and abroad. This course will cover the basics of snow travel, self belay with an ice axe, crampon techniques and ice axe self arrest. The program will take place in the lovely San Gabriel mountains.
