Avalanche Awareness with Field Session/ Avi Refresher
 
Overview:
Join our experienced guides to take the first step towards learning about avalanches, what causes them, and how they can be avoided. You’ll start with some handouts and a short lecture at The Buckhorn Ski and Snowboard lodge, followed by an outdoor clinic on skis, splitboards or snowshoes into the surrounding San Gabriel mountains or Kratka Ridge area. This is an excellent primer for avalanche level one or a great refresher course to knock the rust off your avalanche skills for the new season.
 
Description of skills covered: 
• Class room session covering basic snow stability tests, terrain management and rescue techniques
• Avalanche terrain recognition
• Safe travel techniques
• Snow pack stability tests
• Beacon search techniques
• Companion rescue techniques including probing and strategic shoveling 
•An emphasis on (LNT) Leave no
   trace – stewardship practices in the outdoor environment 
• All courses are taught to the American Avalanche Institute standards
 
Duration: 
This is a full day program expect approximately an 8 hour day plus driving 
 
Prerequisites: 
• No prior avalanche training necessary
• Good physical condition able to engage in moderate activities outdoors for
   hours.

Location: 
The Buckhorn Ski and Snowboard Lodge and surrounding area 
In the lovely San Gabriel Mountains
